About Tunneler Reborn

A Childhood Dream, Finally Real

About 35 years ago, as a kid, I discovered a small DOS game called Tunneler. Two tanks, underground tunnels, pure adrenaline. I was hooked instantly. For decades I kept coming back to it, and every time I felt the same frustration — why doesn't a modern version of this exist? No one ever made one.

So I built it myself. Tunneler Reborn is my love letter to that original game — rebuilt from scratch for the modern web, playable right in your browser, with friends or against bots.

What is Tunneler?

Tunneler is a classic DOS tank game originally released in 1991. Two players control tanks that dig through underground terrain, hunting each other in a maze of self-made tunnels. The gameplay is simple but intense — navigate the dark earth, find your opponent, and destroy their base. The original site and historical notes are preserved at tunneler.org.

The DOS original was created by Geoffery Silverton during 1989 to 1992. The original Tunneler became a cult favorite among DOS gaming enthusiasts. It was one of the earliest split-screen multiplayer tank combat games, and its unique blend of digging mechanics and tactical combat made it unforgettable.

Tunneler Reborn is a modern browser remake of this DOS classic. Play Tunneler online with up to 8 players — no download needed. The game preserves the original top-down tank combat feel while adding modern multiplayer capabilities, AI bots, and power-ups. Whether you remember the original DOS tank game or are discovering it for the first time, Tunneler Reborn brings that underground warfare experience to your browser.
